"Joan Dumouchel has managed to impose a style and language that belong only to herself. A metaphorical universe that gives a central place to the human figure, the heart of action. A world that belongs to the show! ... Place to dream, place to magic! Here are the equilibrists, who traverse the thread of human fragility, where the hopes of life, of tenderness, of the sense of things, of loves lost and rediscovered are strained.

Joan Dumouchel was born in Montreal in 1953.  Dumouchel paints with confidence, demonstrating at the same time a knowledge and an intuition of the surfaces that it dynamizes. The theatricality of his characters is exalted by space, by the way they occupy the surface of the canvas. The world created by Joan Dumouchel immerses the viewer in a dreamlike and timeless atmosphere and echoes what inhabits the human being universally and which too often remains deeply buried in the meanders of our being.
