Raynald Leclerc was born in Saint-Michel de Bellechasse on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River just east of Quebec City. He grew up alongside the river in traditional farming and hunting country where birds crowd the skies and time is marked out in the passing of ships.
Raynald Leclerc has been recognized as an important painter since the 1980s, first in Quebec and, beginning in the mid-1990s, throughout Canada. It is a surprising feat built on uncompromising excellence and patient, uninterrupted effort. With Quebec and Canada conquered, France seemed the obvious next step. And given Raynald Leclerc’s great love of light and landscape, what could be more natural than to go to Provence ?
