Above all, Annabelle Marquis loves the tactile relationship with different types of materials. Touching, feeling, manipulating them acts in her as a third eye. This particularity is not insignificant, as it constitutes an important part of her artistic approach and undeniably influences her entire creative process. Indeed, her tactile relationship with materials literally traces the premises of the work yet to come, the unconscious becomes the conscious.
Magazines, papers, fabrics, everything goes into the mind of her psyche. She tears them apart and feels them, like a blind woman decoding Braille. "I start with no preconceived idea, it's the paper that directs me." She spreads them on the canvas and gradually the shapes reveal themselves. Thus, the subjects arise, sometimes recognizable sometimes less, but never do they come from nothing.
There is always a meaning, an idea behind it...which is linked to Annabelle’s deep desire to communicate, to share a part of herself, with the materials she spreads out on the canvas before her.
