Originally from the Charlevoix region, sculptor and ironworker Daniel Savard has given back his credentials to the blacksmith's profession. Coming from the arts world, he ingeniously combines artistic creation with traditional techniques. Since 2006, he has been running the Cauchon blacksmithing in La Malbaie, a remarkable historical site, and manipulating the tools of yesteryear. Daniel Savard is inspired by the place to shape the material and bring a contemporary touch to it. Through his animations, he transmits his knowledge and preserves living knowledge.
"Through the visual arts, I develop a language to understand and communicate the complexity of human nature. The art forge gives me the freedom of the gesture necessary for my expression on different metals. I use traditional forging and techniques to express a contemporary vision while perpetuating a know-how that I believe is important to preserve. My imagination is built through various sources of inspiration such as plant and human movements as well as the worlds of science fiction, fashion, theatre and circus. I approach each creation in an effort to promote life, beauty, dreams, freedom and respect for human foundations."
