Born in Quebec City in 1954, Gilles Bédard demonstrated a certain artistic talent from an early age. Loving to create from nature, Gilles will spontaneously stop to paint the unusual character of a scene that will have struck him. Using different techniques such as acrylic, oil, pastel and charcoal, his first concern is light.
As a young man, Gilles joined the Canadian Coast Guard, a job that took him aboard icebreakers to the Arctic. The silence of this desert land deeply marked it as it was enveloping. After four years at sea, life as an artist proved to be an irresistible attraction for him.
His works are musical, a luminous vibration, a fleeting moment captured on the canvas. Often inspired by Charlevoix's landscapes, his paintings are treated in a very fanciful way. Gilles specializes in summer landscapes, because he knows how to paint the foliage and assign them unique shades. Indeed, the beauty of his greens has become legendary in the artistic world. His winter scenes, however, are imbued with exquisite warmth.
"I see my art as a cry from the heart, as the spontaneous liberation of everything I feel inside me. I love the freedom that creation brings me and I could not live, as so many others do, in the dreary constraints of everyday life. »
