Jacques Poirier

Jacques Poirier was born in 1942 in the Eastern Townships. Early on, he chose drawing as a means of expression and creation, and painting quickly became an irresistible need.  As a teenager, Jacques Poirier offered himself his first box of oil painting. Subsequently, his favorite hobby will become over the years a passion and finally a full-time job that he carries out with seriousness and assiduity.

For Jacques Poirier, painting rhymes with nature, so much of his work represents interpretations of our landscapes. Travelling through Gaspésie, the North Shore, Charlevoix, the Maritimes, the Magdalen Islands or the Rockies over the seasons, he lingers to translate on his canvas, in original compositions, the atmosphere that emerges from the magnificent landscapes he encounters. The many sketches he brings back from his expeditions or his hikes, he finishes them in the quiet of his workshop to make larger paintings that will be as much praise to the beauty and splendour of nature.

The artist's personal and distinctive style is a delight for amateurs and collectors, as well as a part of many public collections in Canada and abroad. His paintings are available in galleries throughout Canada. An impressive bibliography testifies to the interest that this painter has aroused during all these years.
