Jean-François Racine was born in 1968 in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec. He grew up along the St. Lawrence River in Rimouski. He studied graphic design and the art program at the Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup, and followed the political science program at Laval University in Quebec City. Although his subjects are diverse, he excels in outdoor painting, mountains, rivers, winter landscapes, or performs with musicians on a stage. He is best known for his mountain and ski resort landscapes, where he can be seen painting directly on site. During the summer, it is mainly the salmon rivers or the sea that inspire him.
In his work, Jean-François Racine wants to show the world the beauty of our planet and its huge and formidable wilderness. By painting life, with its lights, water and air, the artist wants to promote the conservation and respect of mother earth. Racine has a keen sense of drawing and perspective and he creates his own color palettes. The exceptional light found in his paintings also characterizes his work. The quality of his work gives the feeling of grasping the essence of the moment. Jean-François works in acrylic while indoors, as well as oil when outside.
Throughout his artistic approach, and out of ethnological interest, he tends to respect reality by carefully situating his subjects in their respective contexts, except his work with musicians where abstraction and creativity are fueled by the music and energy of the moment.
