Joan Dumouchel was born in Montreal in 1953. She studied at the Professional School of Commercial Art and graduated in visual arts at the University of Quebec in Montreal, then continued her training in contemporary art in Normandy (France).
After teaching visual arts for about ten years, Joan Dumouchel devoted herself solely to workshop work. Dumouchel's characters are inhabited by the curious and original atmosphere of the circus world, which the artist discovered thanks to her daughter. In 2004, during a visit to the Carmagnole festival, she was seduced by the stilt walkers, from which she is inspired to this day. The themes covered, supported by the artist's mastery and her treatment of subjects, give Joan Dumouchel's works an intense vitality, tempered by the dreamlike quality of the atmospheres from which they are imprinted: by contemplating her paintings, we understand that the magical universe of dreams is within our reach.
