Joanne Gauthier

Joanne Gauthier was born in 1962 in Trois-Rivières. After graduating in Fine Arts from the University of Quebec in Trois-Rivières, she became interested in the questioning of women of her time in 1984 and translated their situations into large oil washes where painting and collage were already mixed. This desire to mix textures led her to create, as early as the late 80s, her current technique that combines engraving, collage and colors. Floral compositions then take up more and more space in her work, where reality and dream are mixed.

While her way of juxtaposing bright colours, especially reds and blues, refers to the stained glass windows of medieval cathedrals, and her plant motifs remind us of Art Nouveau, her paintings reflect very contemporary realities. They are indeed inspired by her own emotions and what she observes around her. Her innovative technique and flamboyant subjects make her a highly acclaimed artist and popular with the public.
