Louise Lauzon

Louise Lauzon was born in Montreal on March 8, 1956. From the age of fifteen, her talent was recognized by Brother Jerome, a friend and collaborator of Paul-Emile Borduas. Heir to Brother Jerome's innovative pedagogical approach, she led painting workshops at Notre-Dame College for more than twenty years. Her artistic achievements also include the creation of several illustrations.

For this artist, painting becomes a deeply intimate activity. "For me, the most important thing is to be present within yourself and every time you take the brush, to be faithful to your inner being, whether figurative or abstract."

The characters are omnipresent in Lauzon's work; filiform, poetic and endearing, they display different attitudes depending on their activities. These many characters come to life in a wide variety of places, whether on the seaside, in urban contexts or in rural scenes, they always manage to make us smile.

Fresh and colorful, Louise Lauzon's paintings activate each person's childish fiber to take us on a journey through an enchanting and whimsical universe. Many of her works are part of important collections in Canada, the United States and Europe.
