Margo Genest

Margot Genest was born in St. Nicholas, Quebec. From an early age, she studied piano and violin at the Quebec Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Art. Her modest family background naturally led her to develop her creativity. As an adult, she lived nearly 20 years in northern Quebec to be inspired by the most beautiful boreal landscapes. In 1990, life took her back to the major centres where she discovered sculpture at the Saydie Bronfman School of Fine Arts in Montreal.

Her education and classical training constantly help bring her back to the essence of things, events and beings. This is reflected in her uncluttered and often symbolic work. Sometimes she recalls the fundamental elements of the universe: water, fire, air and earth. Sometimes she pleads the environmental cause. The sculptural universe of this artist is inhabited by her current living environment in the heart of the mountains and lakes of Charlevoix in Quebec. Her artistic imprint is marked by sober lines that inspire both simplicity and abundance.

More recently, her research has led her to a new technique based on tin, a material she particularly likes for its luminous effect, which she enriches with patina and finishing stages. Her most recent productions reflect her lifestyle, all in intensity and light. Bronze is still part of her work.

Margot Genest exhibited in several European countries as well as in Los Angeles in 2011 while representing Quebec at the international event "Quebec in Hollywood" aimed at promoting Quebec culture abroad. Finally, she was chosen to create a thematic work for dignitaries from the G7 countries in La Malbaie in 2018.
