Born in 1971 in Repentigny, Miguel Forest holds an attestation of collegial studies in graphic design from Collège Salette in Montreal (1992). Since 1995, he has made more than ten solo exhibitions and participated in some forty group exhibitions. “I am interested in the links that humans have with their territory. Through my works, I want to create specific atmospheres, favoring the theme of space understood in its widest form: natural, urban, interior. I wonder what unites man with his environment and his role in it. This questioning also concerns the relationships that are established between nature and culture, how they influence and nourish each other. If I favor the theme of space, the passage of time also concerns me. I seek in nature the traces of the passing time, which I then want to make feel in my work as so many avenues of reflection for this questioning. I am inspired by my travels and my immediate environment, my experiences and the reflections they suggest to me.
I am a realistic painter attached to the value of representation, which is my privileged means of communicating ideas and emotions. I try to produce strong images, with a simple and uncluttered composition structure but which are visually effective. I want to transmit energy in my painting, through spontaneous gestures. I believe without a shadow of a doubt that the artist's energy is imprinted on his medium, and that this living force will be perceptible, palpable even to the observer. "
