Normand Boisvert was born in Trois-Rivières in 1950. He started by drawing because he loved and knew naturally how to draw. Then he embarked on portraits, which was the logical next step and experimented with watercolour and pastel. From 1970, he discovered and experimented with oil and began to produce landscape and rural scenes. Portraits and still life are also very present in his creation.
The artist is above all recognized as a sensitive and expressive landscaper. Inspired by his stays and escapades in the regions of Charlevoix, L’île d’Orléans and his native Mauricie area, his talent is expressed to transmit joy and passion, far from the dark colors and sullen feelings.
His blazing skies, often in orange hues, reflect the strong lights of the rising sunrise or evening. His landscapes, often winter, and the life that inhabits them, portray his passion for hockey and a nostalgia for the winter games of his childhood. The urban scenes of Quebec City's old district or his native Trois-Rivières, the wild landscapes of Quebec and the still life's coexist with rural landscapes in his work in which some will recognize influences of impressionism and naïve art. Maturity is expressed in the audacity of the burst of colours and the predominance of the atmosphere over realism. The canvases remain marked by his strong brush stroke and intense lights. Multiple and vivid shades are ubiquitous.
With a career of fifty years, Normand Boisvert remains a painter whose unique signature and distinctive style is recognized. He does not intend to stop, especially as the demand for his paintings continues in Canada and extends to Europe.
