Roger Alexandre

Born in 1942 in Montreal, Roger Alexandre taught for a few years before studying painting with Father Jerome. It was through this teacher that the artist, although mainly self-taught, was imbued with the state of mind of the group of Automatists formed around Paul-Emile Borduas, whose art was intended to be a writing technique not controlled by consciousness.

For Roger Alexandre, this translates into a stylized and stripped-down realism and a soft color palette that fits into absolute contrast. A painting by Roger Alexandre is an assured but measured change of scenery, a discreet companion, which reveals itself over the days and the lighting. His paintings encourage contemplation and introspection. This profoundly humanistic artist creates and directs a world without limits.
