Steve Young

Born in Trois-Rivières, Steve Young currently lives and works in the suburbs of Montreal. After college and university, he devoted himself to graphic design. In 1996, he was commissioned by the Tokyo American Club to design illustrations for the advertising campaign of the prestigious club founded in 1928. This month-long stay in Japan has become something of a trigger that highlights the artistic aspect of the communications community with which it has been associated since the late 1980s. He received other illustration assignments and continued his design work while taking more time to paint with acrylic. Over time, and after working for several years in the graphic arts, the appeal of the artistic career became more intense and in 2013, after experimenting with a relationship with a first gallery, he decided to devote himself to it full time. 

Steve Young's current production could be described as a hybrid, with abstract pictorial research and the female character as the subject. A high-contrast definition in which can be translated a state of mind, a reflection, inner peace, strength, fragility and sensuality. Abstract backgrounds allow for another level of interpretation where subject and abstraction merge in an indefinable place. 

Texts, manuscript pages and more or less complete magazine clippings blend with some of the pieces, giving them a "pop-art" imprint. In contrast or in harmony, graphic elements, textures and colours blend into a contemporary pictorial game.
