Alejandra Phelts was born in 1978 in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, a city on the border with the United States. At the age of 19, she received a scholarship to study philosophy at the Institut Privé de Philosophie Saint Jean in France, where she discovered her artistic vocation. In 2007, she earned a degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC).

Since her debut in 2001, she has used painting and other artistic practices such as installation, photography, video and performance to explore the feminine condition from her desire for love, freedom and autonomy.

Metaphor is an integral part of her artistic approach. Defiant, powerful, and subtle, the women captured by Alejandra embody an inclusive feminine spirit that recognizes their strength and power.

Alejandra Phelts is considered one of the most important artists from northern Mexico. Her work has been featured in more than 60 exhibitions in her country as well as in France, Italy, Spain, Monaco, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Indonesia, Japan, China, Abu Dhabi, and Oman.

An active spokesperson for the situation of women at the border through art, she has been selected to represent Mexico in exhibitions such as the XX Japan International Art Exchange 2021 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum; the Salon des Beaux Arts 2018 at the Salle le Nôtre del Louvre in Paris, France and; in 2016, during the G20 Hangzhou China Global Arts Agenda, at the Hangzhou Qianjiang Art Museum, China.
