Above all, Annabelle Marquis adores the tactile relationship with matter. Touching, feeling, and handling act like a third eye for her. This particularity is not insignificant, as it constitutes an important part of her artistic approach and undeniably influences her entire creative process. Indeed, her tactile relationship with matter literally traces the premises of the work yet to come.

The unconscious becomes its uterus, the conscious its engine, its seed. Through touch, the picture slowly takes shape. Magazines, papers, fabrics, everything passes through the mill of her psyche. She tears them up, feels them, like a blind person decoding Braille.

"I start without any preconceived ideas, it's the paper that guides me." She spreads her tears on the canvas and little by little the forms are revealed. Thus, the subjects emerge, sometimes recognizable, sometimes less so, but never come from nothing, always signifying a state, an idea... Always linked to her deep desire to communicate, to share a part of herself, her spontaneous astonishment at contact with the material.

For more than a decade, this rising artist has been propelling herself internationally through several major exhibitions in North America, Europe and Asia.
