Collection: Daniel Savard
Originally from the Charlevoix region, sculptor and artistic ironworker Daniel Savard has successfully restored the blacksmith's profession to its former glory. Coming from an artistic background, he ingeniously combines artistic creation with traditional techniques. Since 2006, he has been running the Cauchon forge-carpentry in La Malbaie, a remarkable historic site, and uses old-fashioned tools. Daniel Savard draws inspiration from the setting to shape the material and add a contemporary touch. Through his activities, he shares his knowledge and preserves living wisdom.
Through visual arts, I develop a language to understand and communicate the complexity of human nature. Artistic forging offers me the freedom of gesture necessary for my expression on different metals. I use traditional forging and coppersmithing techniques to express a contemporary vision while perpetuating a know-how that I believe is important to preserve. My imagination is built through various sources of inspiration such as plant and human movements as well as the worlds of science fiction, fashion, theater and circus. I approach each creation by striving to promote life, beauty, dreams, freedom and respect for human foundations.
