Guy-Anne Massicotte

Collection: Guy-Anne Massicotte

Guy-Anne Massicotte was born in 1968 in Nicolet, Quebec. She studied drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, and art history at the University of Sherbrooke and Bishop's University, but considers herself primarily self-taught in oil techniques. She rigorously studied the craft of painting using specialized books. Putting these writings into practice, as well as careful observation of works by masters such as Vermeer, Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Dali, Bouguereau, and many ancient and contemporary realist painters, allowed her to develop a very personal technique and approach to painting, making possible an exceptionally refined and nuanced execution. Guy-Anne Massicotte's work is part of the Contemporary Realist Painting Movement at the international level through her participation in numerous competitions and events.

Constantly evolving, her work explores the three traditional poles of realism: still life, interior and exterior scenes, and the human figure. Natural elements, organic, mineral, or living beings are found in all the compositions, demonstrating the importance of our connection to the earth, our animal side, which does not disappear with all the technologies in which we are immersed... Although the starting point of a work is in the observation of reality, the artist is convinced that the only way to obtain a "living" painting in realism is to consider it as an abstraction; that is, to see the different elements as a set of coherent forms, find a unifying harmony in the colors and values, and finally, use the brushstroke for its own richness, thus creating a variety of refined textures. Each composition is a search for dynamic balance and harmony.

Guy-Anne Massicotte's works can be found in numerous private collections in Canada, the United States, Europe, Australia, as well as in the important Loto-Québec Collection.
