Collection: Marie-Catherine Péloquin

A self-taught painter, Marie-Catherine Péloquin was born in Montreal in 1967. She studied art history and taught at Cégep. For several years, she has devoted herself entirely to painting, which has now become inseparable from the meaning of her life.

In her works, we notice traces sculpted in the materials and a burst of gestures. A universe in emergence. Marie-Catherine ceaselessly searches for the vital energy connected to the material that is embodied in a multitude of explosions. The spontaneous impulses of her painting attempt to demonstrate the fiery nature of life. Thus, the organic elements seem to want to escape from the painting in order to live with the least possible constraints.

In his imaginary landscapes, freedom and reverie hold preponderant places both in the gesture and in the interpretation of the pictorial elements. Freeing the material as well as that of his mind. The work belongs to itself and holds its own destiny to meet the gaze.

“My artistic vision is based on my pantheistic belief in the universe as well as my interest in quantum physics and my spiritual need. I have always been interested in the consciousness and intelligence that reside in organic and physical matter and its power to organize the universe in a coherent and harmonious way. This is why at the base of my paintings we find a multitude of tiny particles that organize and energize space. My “spontaneous explosions” give birth to an energy that exceeds the framework of my paintings to demonstrate that the universe is in perpetual change, endless and eternal. I am also interested in colors specifically because of their vibrational frequencies as well as in different materials (sand, metal, collages, etc.) allowing me to express in my landscapes the vision I have of this world around me.”
