Collection: Nicole Laporte

Although drawing has always been a part of her daily life, Nicole Laporte waited until she was in her forties before leaving her job as a court clerk to devote herself entirely to painting. She took a few classes with Marcel Bourbonnais and then explored the possibilities of oil painting on her own.

Her entourage and her happy family life experiences naturally orient her towards subjects revolving around childhood, games and strolls. Mixing her personal history with that of Quebec, Nicole Laporte features a group of happy kids, where adults come from time to time to take a seat. Each of her paintings reveals a small moment of happiness captured on the spot, presented with candor and sincerity in which the viewer takes the time to immerse themselves, awakening our childhood side. Sometimes struck by a little nostalgia, we tell ourselves these familiar stories that brightened the daily life of our childhood, especially if it was happy. And if the subjects of certain paintings take us back to the 1920s, a true source of inspiration for Nicole Laporte, it is to counterbalance the fast life of today. By admiring the tranquil scenes of this era, the artist makes us realize that the real "roaring twenties" are not what we think.

For her, art is evocation, the painting is a memory of happiness.
