Collection: Niko

Nicole Mathieu, known as "Niko," was born in Montreal into a family of artists. She worked in the fashion world in California and New York, but always knew she would become a painter. Her nomadic nature led her to travel throughout Europe and allowed her to work in various spheres of activity until 1988.

Upon her return to Montreal, she took art therapy classes with Nicole Bolduc, and it was then that her passion for painting took root. From this time on, Niko perfected her painting skills. She attended the La Renaissance School of Fine Arts. She also perfected her drawing skills at the Saidye Bronfman School, focusing on portraiture. From this time on, Niko devoted every minute of her day to painting, which provided her with stability, discipline, and artistic balance.

Niko draws energy from meditation and yoga, and transposes it into her canvases in the form of raw colors. Her art is continually expressive, complex, and sensual. Creating represents a passion for her that balances her. She enjoys deconstructing precision with her brushes and exploring the multiple possibilities of abstract and figurative art through her personal vision.

A versatile and contemporary artist, Niko is driven by a burning zest for life that permeates her colorful, surprising, and mysterious works. Drawing inspiration from her travels around the world, NIKO has the ability to renew herself while continuing to reveal the androgynous and enigmatic faces that characterize her rich and colorful artistic universe.
