Collection: Pauline Paquin

Born in 1952 in Sainte-Monique, Quebec, Pauline Paquin first lived in a rural setting on her family's farm where she began drawing at a very young age. In CEGEP, she opted for nursing techniques, which she studied for three years in Saint-Jérôme. She then came to work in Montreal as a nurse. In 1980, she had a painter as a neighbor who introduced her to oil painting and she began to take a serious interest in this medium. Finally, in 1983, she decided to launch herself into this field and devote her life to it. Since then, she has exhibited in Quebec and Ontario and in several galleries in Western Canada. She is also a member of the Institute of Figurative Arts.

The world of childhood according to Pauline Paquin would be a perfect title for her entire body of work. With her, children are always in celebration, in the city as well as in the countryside. A magical world of great vitality in the colors, lines, shapes, in short, in the entire composition. A painting by this artist is a beautiful tale, a beautiful story. Certainly, the illustration side is very present, but the anecdote becomes universal. It seems that this paradise is never threatened by time because Paquin's vitality bursts forth in her paintings.

Pauline Paquin's painting is obviously narrative, but we should not stop at the anecdotes, the picturesque details, the "children's stories" that she offers. "I have often been told that my painting smiles, and yet we very rarely see the faces of my children, firstly because I don't like to dwell on fine-tuning details, and especially because in this way they better represent all the children of the world, and not just certain individuals from here."
