Collection: Steve Young
Born in Trois-Rivières, Steve Young currently lives and works in the suburbs of Montreal. After college and university studies, he devoted himself to graphic design. In 1996, he was commissioned by the Tokyo American Club to design the illustrations for the advertising campaign of the prestigious club founded in 1928. This month-long stay in Japan became a sort of catalyst that brought to the forefront the entire artistic aspect of the communications industry, with which he has been associated since the late 1980s. He received other illustration assignments and continued his design work while devoting more time to painting in acrylics. Over time, and after working for several years in the graphic arts sphere, the attraction of an artistic career became more intense and in 2013, after experimenting with a first gallery, he decided to devote himself to it full-time.
Steve Young's current work could be described as hybrid, as it features abstract pictorial research and the female character as the subject. A high-contrast definition that can be seen to translate a state of mind, reflection, inner peace, strength, fragility, and sensuality.
Texts, manuscript pages and magazine clippings, more or less complete, are combined with certain pieces, giving them a "pop-art" feel. In opposition or in harmony, the graphic elements, textures and colours blend together in a contemporary pictorial game.
