Sylvain Tremblay

Sylvain Tremblay was born in 1966 in Quebec City. A graduate in graphic design, he worked as an illustrator for several years, then made a major shift to painting in 2002 to devote himself to it full-time. His works are exhibited in Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

In addition to his gallery-presented artwork, Tremblay is involved in several live and off-site painting projects. In 2014, he created a large fresco in the Dubai desert where, from atop a hot air balloon, he poured sand of three different colors onto a canvas placed on the ground to reveal the portrait of Sheikh Zayed, thus expressing his promise to highlight the local community and traditions of the United Arab Emirates. Fascinated by human beings, from 2012 to 2015, he explored the male-female duality and met intersex people in France, Morocco, Taiwan, and South Africa, subsequently producing several unique pieces, an artistic video, and a book: NO GENDER.

Among his many participations and recognitions around the world, he is one of three Canadians to represent Canada at the G20 in China in the fall of 2016. In 2017, he participated in "Personal Structure," an exhibition designed as part of the prestigious Venice Biennale. That same year, he presented the world premiere of the documentary Leonardo da Vinci at the Château du Clos Lucé in France.

Based in Dubai from 2012 to 2016, where he taught modern art history at the Canadian University, Sylvain Tremblay then headed to New York. In November 2019, Tremblay was selected to present a live performance at the inauguration of the Canada Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. In May 2020, a work by Tremblay was chosen by UNESCO to create a mask and participate in the Mask Art exhibition as part of the World Day for Cultural Diversity.
